Anti-Boring Food Club

If you’re anything like me, 99% of your unintended spending goes to food and drinks due to the social aspect that comes with going out for a meal or cocktail. As a college student, this is an area of spending that I constantly fail to cut out of my life (I promise I’m trying!)

As far as eating when traveling goes, I’m even more likely to go against what my bank account wants and splurge on dinner and drinks since trying new restaurants and bars is a fun way to get to know a place you’re visiting. Because of this, I have learned that to keep myself from spending all my money eating out (and wasting my groceries), I need to cook meals while camping that I look forward to throughout the day- because if all I get at the end of the day is a PB&J, I’ll be on Yelp looking for a better option in no time.

If you can relate and want a little inspiration on how to save money by cooking while you camp, read on for a few of my favorite recipes you can prepare in advance of your trip, or make over the fire!

Cooking in the woods can seem intimidating, but I promise it's easier than you would expect. You’re going to need a few basics to cook while camping- a camp stove or fire, cooler, pot & pan, utensils, bowls, paper towels, camp soap, and a sponge!

Most Important Meal of the Day!

My savior on camping trips is packing cold brew, but french presses are another easy way to get your caffeine fix while camping. Aside from that, I love packing yogurt, protein drinks & trail mix! Sweet & savory toast combos like the one above are another favorite of mine to start the day on a good note.

Lunchy Munchies!

Meal prep is the perfect solution to being on the go while camping. You can bring it while hiking, rafting, or whatever else you decide to do and avoid wasting money on fast food! Two of my favorite meals to prepare at home and stick in the cooler are above in green. Dress and season however you like it!

Dinner is Served!

I am very food-motivated. Having a yummy dinner to look forward to at the end of the day is sometimes the motivation I need to make it through the end of a long hike. Both of these meals in orange are best served with an Appalachian Mountain Brewery IPA to celebrate a day well spent. Baked potatoes are my favorite while camping because all you have to do is stick them in the coals of the fire, and wait!

Now you have no excuse to not go camping because I planned all your meals! Bon Appétit! See y'all Sunday with a post about a place near and dear to my heart.

Cheers,

Katie Magnolia
